Volunteers/Visitors
Parent involvement is the key to student success! We welcome volunteers and appreciate any support you can offer. There will be numerous opportunities for you to take part in our exciting learning community this year. Thank you, in advance, for your time!
All must complete a new volunteer packet along with a BCI check each school year in order to volunteer. It is important that you complete this process as early in the school year as possible in order to volunteer in classrooms, at events and on field trips.
The volunteer form is located on the school’s web page and hard copies can also be obtained in the main office.
Please sign in at the main office upon arrival so that we have a record of your visit and to obtain a visitor’s identification badge.
Please refrain from using your cell phone when conducting business at the main office. Your child is important to us and we want to be sure that he/she receives everyone’s full attention.
When bringing children into the school, kindly refrain from walking them to their classrooms. This district policy is in place for the safety and confidentiality of our students.
Routines
Below is a list of activities to incorporate on a consistent basis in order to help build a solid routine for your child. These suggested activities/routines will positively contribute to the success of our students.
Check your child’s backpack, planner and Rhodes folder nightly.
Read with your child at least 15 minutes everyday and limit technology during the week.
Encourage your child to complete homework after school or before any downtime before bedtime.
Ensure that your child attends school everyday and arrives to school on time.
Please make every effort to schedule doctor’s appointments before or after school, so that instructional time is not missed.
Absences, Late Arrivals, Early Dismissals
Attendance is mandated by RI General Laws 16-19-1. While we understand students will be absent due to occasional illnesses, please make every effort to schedule vacations and trips on non-school days. Regular attendance is absolutely necessary for academic success and achievement.
Additionally, early dismissals have a direct impact on academic success. The end of the day is a critical time when teachers are reviewing lessons and homework assignments, and providing additional support. Please make every effort to schedule after-school appointments accordingly.
Please review the CPS Attendance Policy for more information regarding excused absences, tardiness, etc.
Forgotten Items
Please refrain from bringing in “forgotten items” (i.e. homework, notebooks, books) for your child once the school day has begun. We prefer to limit disruptions to the classrooms during instructional times. Should a student forget his/her lunch, he/she can visit the office on the way to the cafeteria to pick up the lunch.
School Arrival, Dismissal, Drop-Off, Pick-Up
Arrival
Adult supervision will begin at 8:25 a.m. The doors will open for those that are participating in the breakfast program at 8:25 a.m.
Please do not leave your child at school unattended prior to 8:25 a.m. as there is no adult supervision.
Dismissal
When school is dismissed, it is important that children are picked up promptly.
All parents/guardians must show an ID when picking up a student. NO Exceptions. The CPS dismissal policy requires the adult to be on the child's Emergency Care Card, to bring a photo ID and to sign out the child you are dismissing. Student safety is our number one priority. By working together, we can help to ensure the safety of all.
Students will not be released to anyone whose names are not on the Emergency Care Card.
Please make sure the office and your child’s teacher is informed of after-school pick-up procedures that may be different from the norm. In the event there is a change to your child’s normal dismissal procedure, you MUST write a note to your child’s teacher stating the change.
Should you want your child to walk directly home after school on his/her own, a written letter of permission from you is required.
Teachers are not able to conference with parents during dismissal time, however a scheduled meeting can be made at any time. It is important to remember that during dismissal time, the teacher’s primary role is to ensure the safety and security of children.

Afternoon Dismissal and Parent Pick-Up (2:55 p.m.)
Students who are walking home or being picked up will be dismissed out of the back doors #3 and #6 onto the blacktop. During dismissal time, the thruway will be coned off and cars will not be permitted to enter. This is to ensure that our students avoid all cars and traffic.
Busses will be loaded from door #2 (facing Shaw Ave).
We ask that parents be patient during the after school pick-up process, especially in the beginning of the school year. It is important that teachers learn and become familiar with all of the individuals picking up our students each day. We understand this process can be time consuming and your continued support and patience is greatly appreciated. Safety is our first priority.
As a friendly reminder, cars should not be parked directly in front of the school during the school day as well as during dismissal. Please also be mindful of the following labeled parking areas:
Handicap Parking Spots: Reserved for individuals that have an accessible plate ONLY.
No Parking Zones: Should ALWAYS be clear of vehicles.
